COVID-19 Update

As of March 15, 2020, California State Parks, in support of San Luis Obispo County public health officials to contain the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) took precautionary measures at Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument and closed the park.

All planned tours have been suspended and full refunds will be given. Hearst Castle's visitor center, including food service and gift shop, are also closed. Tour reservation holders have been contacted via email for refunds.

On March 17, California State Parks announced the temporary closure of all campgrounds in the state park system to support state and local efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus). This includes traditional campsites, hotel rooms, dorms, cottages, yurts, and cabins. Read the press release here. Camping reservation holders will be contacted via email for refunds.

Non-campground outdoor areas of parks, including trails and beaches, remain open. Visitors are reminded to practice social distancing and maintain at least six feet between other visitors and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. Restrooms also remain open, and visitors are advised to take soap for hand washing and alcohol-based hand sanitizers when water is not available.

Last week, State Parks temporarily suspended guided tours and large events, and temporarily closed facilities such as visitor centers and museums.

As of March 20, California State Parks is postponing the Junior Lifeguard Program registration for summer programs until May and will reevaluate at that time. Participants who have already enrolled will not be dropped. If you have questions please reach out to the specific program for assistance.
